Xi'an, known as Chang'an in ancient times, is one of the famous cities with long history and rich cultural in China. With a history of over 3,100 years, Xi'an ranks first in the seven ancient capitals. Xi'an is rich in tourism resources and embraces 98 historical monuments and cultural relics, more than 4,000 ancient ruins, mausoleums and tombs, and 120,000 unearthed cultural relics under city protection. The terra-cotta warriors, horses and bronze chariots of the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty (221-207 B.C.) made a sensation at home and abroad.

This tour covers not only the well-known highlights, but also with some local experience.

Itinerary

 

Day 1 Arrival Xi’an, Shaanxi Museum to Big Goose Pagoda

Fly to Xi’an, the capital of Shaanxi province.

On Arrival be greeted by our local guide and transfer to the city of Xian.

After lunch, we start our Xian city tour with Shaanxi history museum and the Wild Big Goose Pagoda.

Shaanxi Museum, which was named Shaanxi History Museum and now is the Provincial Museum. Thanks to the long history of Shaanxi Province, the completion of Shaanxi History Museum is as rich as over 370,000 precious relics, large quantities, full categories, high grade. The bronze wares, pottery figures, and mural paintings in Tang tombs and so on, are all wonderful artistic treasures.

Afterwards, we visit the Big Goose Pagoda nearby. Big Goose Pagoda was built in honor of the work of Xuan Zang, the famous Chinese Buddhist monk, immortalized in the 16th century novel Journey to the West, otherwise known simply as, Monkey.

Day 2 Xian Terra-cotta Warriors, Muslim Quarter

In March 1974, when digging wells some 1 mile west to the Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum, some farmers discovered something looked old and valuable- the now famous Terra cotta Warriors, distributed over three large underground platforms and forming part of the emperor's burial objects. Numbering more than 7000, the figures are cultural assets of considerable quality. Since they have been uncovered the figures, standing 5m/16ft down, have been at risk from the weather; a giant hall has been constructed over the first excavation site to provide protection. And some more new pits recently rediscovered.

Today, we come to visit the Terra-cotta warriors and the loricas.

Late afternoon, we get back Xi’an City and come to visit the Grand Mosque whose history said trace back to the Tang dynasty (618-907). We also have opportunity to appreciate the puppet Show in Gao family Courtyard.

After explore around the Muslim quarter, we are going to have dumpling banquet dinner.

Day 3 Famen Temple & Qianling Mausoleum

This morning, we drive about 1.5 hrs to visit Famen Temple.

Famen Temple, situated in Famen Town of Fufeng County, about 120 kilometers (74.57 miles) west of Xian, is renowned for storing the veritable Finger Bone of the Sakyamuni Buddha. The temple was established in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25--220), for carrying forward Buddhism. The most representative structures in the temple are the Famen Temple Pagoda and Famen Temple Museum. In the course of rebuilding the pagoda in 1987, an underground vault was discovered beneath the foundation of the pagoda and a large amount of Buddhist relics were found.

Qianling is the Mausoleum of Emperor Gaozong and his Empress Wu Zetian of Tang Dynasty. It is also the only Mausoleum with two emperors (or Empress). Occupies 2.3 square meters (0.88 square kilometers) the Mausoleum contains 378 buildings that included the Sacrifice Hall, a Pavilion, a Hall of Ministers and numerous corridors.

Day 4 Ancient City Wall, Stone Steles Museum., Hanyang Tomb, Departure

This morning, we start our tour with the ancient city wall.

Built in the 14th century at the request of Emperor Zhuyuanzhang (the first emperor of Ming Dynasty), the ancient wall of Xi’an is one of the oldest landmarks of the city. It is also the most complete city wall that has survived in China, as well being one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world.

On the ancient city wall, we will take about one hour to cycle around the 12KMs long ancient city wall.

Followed with the Stone Steles Museum. The museum is housed in a former Temple of Confucius in the Old Town. The oldest collection dates from the Han period (206 B.C. to A.D.220). It is just a treasure of Chinese Calligraphy.

In the afternoon, we drive to Hanyang Tomb.

Located some 20 kms west from Xi'an, the Hanyang Tomb, believed to be one of the largest underground museums in the country, covers an area of 7,800 square metres. Built in 153 BC, the tomb is the Mausoleum of Liu Qi (188 -141 BC), the fourth emperor of the Western Han Dynasty, and his queen.

Then, drive about 15 minutes to the airport for flight to your next destination.
