Day 1 Arrive Harbin

You can fly into Harbin or catch a train, Harbin is the capital of Heilongjiang. This charming city has characteristics that speak of its Chinese, Russian and Jewish influences. After we settle down, we drive out of the city to the marshland along the Songhua River for some birding. In the evening we have a birding orientation briefing.

Day 2 Harbin to Zhalong

Today, we take Train T401 (0730-0959) to Qiqihar. We meet our van at the railway station and transfer to the city where we will eat lunch. After lunch, we drive for about half an hour to Zhalong and settle down in the guest house. We start our birding in the afternoon.

Day 3 Birding in Zhalong

Early this morning, we explore the area around the guesthouse. After breakfast, we head out to the marshland to watch the cranes in the wild. Today, we eat a boxed lunch.

Day 4 Birding in Zhalong

This morning we explore another area around the guesthouse.

After breakfast, we drive to another scenic location and head out by foot to watch the cranes. We drive back to the hotel for a rest and in the afternoon we do some birding around the lake by the guesthouse.

Day 5 Zhalong to Harbin

We depart Zhalong in the morning and head for Qiqihar. En route, we take a stop by another lake where we might see thousands of birds migrating in flocks. We drive to Qiqihar for lunch and then take Train T406 (1335-1558) back to Harbin.

Day 6 Depart Harbin

This morning, we take a short city tour. First we visit the Church of St. Sophia which was first built in 1922 by the Russians and then Zhongyang Dajie, the central avenue of where the century old buildings still shine with charm. We then take a flight or train back home.
